Omega-3 and Your Health

DHA is a type of Omega-3 that makes-up approximately 30% of our brain and retina. Studies show that low intake of DHA is linked with increased risk of retina disease, macular degeneration, dementia, and Alzheimer's disease. Studies have also reported improved memory and cognitive function with increased DHA.

While Omega-6 promotes inflammation, Omega-3 (DHA) directly competes with Omega-6 in our body and reduces inflammation. Inflammation, or swelling, is often the cause of vision and eye disease, especially dry eye. Available data suggests benefits of consuming at least 800mg of DHA daily.

Lutein, a pigment found in green vegetables such as kale and broccoli, has also been shown to improve vision; specifically light sensitivity and contrast in low-lighting. Available data suggest improvement at 20mg of lutein daily.
