Migraines, with or without headache, often result in visual changes known as Aura. These Visual Migraines, appearing as an area of shimmering blur or colored prism in both eyes, typically last 20 minutes and sometimes precede a headache.
Retinal Migraines typically present as temporary vision loss in one eye only, and are the result of artery spasms in the eye. Other symptoms of migraine may include sensitivity to light, tunnel vision, or other temporary vision loss.
Patients experiencing visual disturbances should have a retinal evaluation to rule out vascular or optic nerve disease.
