The most common eyelash disease, known as blepharitis, is an inflammation (swelling) at the eyelash follicles, often caused by bacterial infection or mites known as Demodex.
Eyelash infection may either occur from person to person contact, or through household dust. At early stages, many patients have minimal symptoms that are often mistaken for allergies. Advanced blepharitis may result in permanent eyelash loss and ocular surface disease if left untreated.
Blepharitis is easily treated in our clinic with prescription ointment or drops. To prevent blepharitis, weekly or monthly eyelid scrubs are recommended (Consider OcuSoft Original Lid Scrub).
